Be Careful What You Wish For
Today started off much like any other day, my son Jude asking for a walk. We accumulate the essentials for our trip: water, cheerios, shoes; and he hops in the wheelchair for our journey.
Bit of backstory, in late September of 2019 Jude broke his left ankle in two spots. Because of his behaviors they were unable to put him in a cast so we left with a walking boot and a wheelchair.
So we’re on our walk to the school in said wheelchair when we pass a couple. “Good Morning,” I say, as I do everyday when we pass people on the street.
Did I get good morning back? No, I most certainly did not, I get, “Hello there, would you mind if we pray for you and your son?” “What’s your son’s name.”
I’m a little taken aback, but Jude’s chill, so far be it for me to take someones joy away “Sure, that’d be nice. His name is Jude.”
Lady starts in praying for healing to my sons body and that God will take away his hurt and help him “be whole”. I want to correct her but I think interrupting someone mid-prayer would be considered rude, and they’re sweet so I let it go.
But does Jude? NOPE! He most certainly does not!
At the exact moment she’s praying for his “broken body” he crosses his right foot over his left ankle, proving that his body is in fact very capable. I’m not sure if it was purposeful or SUPER coincidental, and passive aggressive but he did and the guy saw it.
Dude’s Eyes about bugged out of his head (as I’m sure he assumed Jude was paraplegic). He quickly grabs his wife’s hand interrupting her and prays for Jude’s Dad and family that we have wisdom and understanding etc… AMEN
Unable to look me in the eye at this point he hurriedly gives me and Jude fist bumps and he ushers his wife away as fast he could.
Now I know firsthand that it can be difficult to go up to a stranger and ask them if you can pray for them, so I appreciate the gesture.
But more than that gesture, I am appreciating that my kid has the best comedic timing in the WORLD and was an absolute rockstar today!!
Today’s situation has sparked an upcoming podcast idea that will be coming soon. (Warning: Jaci gonna be FIERY!)
I’d like a million dollars (prayer thing worked yesterday, worth a shot)
